GENERAL GAMBLING TIPS AND ADVICE
- The minimum age for gambling almost everywhere is 21. If a minor wins a jackpot, the casino won’t pay it. Don’t even try gambling online or in a brick and mortar casino if you’re under 21.
- Don’t gamble with money you can’t afford to lose. Scared money is lost money.
- When playing in a brick and mortar casino, make sure you have your identification with you. If you hit a big jackpot, you’ll need both your driver license and social security card.
- Don’t increase your bets to try to catch up with your losses.
- If you don’t know what to do, watch the other players, and you might even ask. (This applies to etiquette type stuff, not strategy.)
- Don’t get drunk when you’re gambling. You’ll lose money you don’t need to, and you’ll forget how much fun you had. (It’s okay to enjoy a complimentary beverage or two. Just don’t get drunk.)
- Know what the table limits are before you sit down.
- Join the slots club.
- Don’t play over what you can afford to play. You know what your ‘gulp’ limit is. It’s the amount of money that would make you swallow hard if you lost it. Keep that number in mind while you’re playing.
- Read The Frugal Gambler by Jean Scott.
- If you want to learn a new game in a casino in Las Vegas, you’ll be able to get individual attention in a casino early in the morning when it’s not crowded.
- Don’t cuss when you lose. It’s coarse.
- Understand a game before you play it. If you don’t understand it, you won’t enjoy it, and you won’t win either.
- Understand what the house edge is on a game, and know how to calculate what it costs per hour to play a given game.
- Consider learning to play video poker and/or blackjack. They’re the two games in a casino with the best payouts for a knowledgeable player.
- Learn to play poker. You can actually win at poker consistently.
- Know the laws in your area regarding any kind of gambling you want to do, and follow the laws.
- Take everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt, even this website.
